Down To Earth, Ubud

Down to Earth Cafe and Health Food Shop is a wholesome bamboo haven in central Ubud attempting to create "One Peaceful World through Nutrition". The shop downstairs sells everything organic from toothpaste to tempeh, while upstairs is a very chilled out vegetarian cafe. We really appreciated the bamboo children's corner - with books, a chalk board, drawing stuff, toys etc.

They offer a super healthy menu including plenty of raw delights such as Zuccini pesto and Sprouted Wheatberry Salad. The Meditteranean Platter was perfect for us to share for lunch - real hummus, babaganoush, felafels, tabouleh, dipping breads all made fresh to order. Loved my Iron Deficiency Juice full of parsley, carrot and apple, served with a paw paw stem straw.

The breezy cafe boasts bamboo tables, chairs, plenty of cushions and even these bamboo plant borders (see below), sprouting lemongrass, parsley, lettuce etc. - I just love such innovative use of space. My kids could not go past the crunchy peanut butter balls which were a perfect afternoon tea treat for a walk through the Monkey Forest.
